Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe + Review
The Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxury+ is among the most sought-after infant car seats available on the market. It scored highly in our tests for safety, ease of use and comfort.
The harness loops and low birth weight routing are designed to accommodate newborns of average size.
Safety Ratings
There are a lot of different infant car seats available on the market, and they all vary from really good to not so much. It's a good idea to do some research before you buy an infant car seat so you know what to look for and which are the most highly rated. The good news is that even the most affordable no-name infant car seats usually perform well in crash tests.
Maxi cosi has been helping to keep children safe in Europe since 1984 and they've brought that expertise to the US with a line of rear-facing only carseats. Their latest offering is the Mico Max Plus and it seems like a great option.
This seat is unique in the sense that it can be used rear-facing for a much longer period than most other seats. This is important, because research has shown that babies are safer facing rear for the length of time they can. The Mico Max Plus can remain rear-facing for as long as two years!
Another feature that makes this seat stand out is the fact that it has a recline feature. This feature isn't found in the majority of infant car seats, but it could help your child to fall asleep. The seat is also very well padded, and the headrest/SIP also.
The only negative with the Mico Max Plus is that it's not as easy to use as some other infant car seats. It's harder to get the seat in the correct position and you need to work a bit harder to tighten the straps. It's a little bit of an learning curve to use the LATCH anchors, and tether.
Overall this car seat has a high safety rating. It was the best performer during our crash test, and the dummy's head as well as chest were able to withstand very low forces of g.
The one thing to be aware of is that this seat won't last as long as some other models. According to CDC charts the child will outgrow it around age three. It's difficult to get them up to age five in this seat. It has a 40lb weight limit and one height adjustment. In the end you'll likely have to upgrade to a booster seat with no back or a larger seat.
Ease of Use
Maxi-Cosi infant car seats are among of the most user-friendly on the market, with user-friendly features that make unbuckling and buckling easy. They're also light and compact, which makes them easy to carry and can be easily fitted in most cars. They can even be used with premium strollers to create travel systems that allow baby to ride in style from birth.
When you're running errands for your new baby or taking your family on a vacation you'll need a baby car seat that can make every journey comfortable and easy. In our tests of user-friendliness we looked at a range of factors that impact the general usability of a seat. These included how straightforward it is to put in the seat and its base, change the position of the harness, place the child in the seat, secure the harness, and remove the child from the seat. We also tested how well the seat fitted to our vehicle, and how well LATCH suited to different vehicles.
Mico 30 was the winner of our tests on ease-of-use. It scored higher than its competitors. Its lightweight design makes it easy to move and is compatible with all premium strollers making it an ideal option for parents who are constantly on the go. The seat also features a sun canopy with multiple positions and a flip out visor that provide ample protection for your baby, while the ergonomic handle is designed to wrap around your hips, putting less stress on your back.
Mico's seat pads are also a favorite. They're made of self-wicking fabric that deodorizes the fabric and draws away liquids from the baby. It's removable and machine washed, making it fast and easy to clean. The infant insert comes with additional neck and head protection for babies who are smaller. In Pushchairs & Prams crash test, two of the Mico 30 LATCH straps tore right through the seat belt path. This could decrease the safety margin in a severe frontal collision. This was a rare incident but it is crucial to be aware that this could occur when installing car seats.
Comfort
As a new mother or father the comfort of your baby is of utmost importance. Maxi-Cosi car seat with an ideal reclining angle and ample head support are the best way to keep your baby at ease and happy. This is particularly crucial when the seat is rear facing since babies are more susceptible to heat and pressure on their heads.
Maxi Cosi has a variety of options that meet our comfort criteria for babies. Their range includes ISOFIX base and seatbelt installation, which is recommended for babies to minimize the chance that an incorrect installation could occur. The company also offers a variety of travel systems to simplify life for you and your baby, including the award winning Mica and its most recent model called the Mico Max Plus.
The brand new Mica is the first car seat to provide 360 degree rotation which is a huge help when transporting newborns or children in the early stages. This feature can also be helpful for parents who have back or neck pain. The seat has plenty of padding to keep children at ease and comfortable, with one MFM tester noting it felt like the La-Z-Boy for babies. It's also made of eco-friendly fabric that are resistant to fire and machine washable, so it's a great choice for green-minded moms.
Another option for newborns is the brand new Magellan that comes with side impact protection for the torso to protect babies from injury in the case of a collision with a vehicle. It also has a cushioned safety harness padding on the headrests to ensure children are safe and comfortable in the event of an accident.
The Maxi-Cosi FamilyFix, as well as 2wayFix, are both highly reviewed by parents of more advanced babies and toddlers for their comfort. The seats are spacious and feature a handy storage compartment under the base for toys and accessories. They also come with adjustable leg supports that can be adjusted to lower or raise according to the height of your child, and they are compatible with a wide range of strollers. The strollers weigh a bit more than their competitors, however the safety standards they meet make up for it. The FamilyFix features a strong connector for LATCH that is simpler to tighten than the soft connectors that are that other brands use. It is rated top in terms of safety and user-friendliness.
